Artist Statement
Often of nature and different experiences in my life, inspire my creations to become something more. To take a deep breathe, in a hectic day and enjoy the splendor of an autumn leaf. Inspired by the world's immense creativity in nature and art, I am an artist who loves to experiment with all types of media, various drawing materials, painting mediums, wax, wood, stain glass and anything different to keep my work freshly imaginative. Even though my work is mostly two-dimensional, I also try my hand at three-dimensional once in awhile. When working on any 2D artwork, painting recently, I sometimes feel similar to a sculptor. Using my palette knife to add viscosity and texture to form certain moods like: lazy, frustrated, ecstatic and so forth. Scooping thick amounts of paint on canvas, sometimes more than once, blopping, pushing, dabbing and scraping the medium around to different places until the image is formed. The bushes help add small details like words, a silky fabric, designs in a book, or smooth skin. These bushes can bring calm and gloss to the art or make unique texture as dry brushing will convert to distorting or making the surface rough and scattered to convey another mood. I hope whoever may see my art realize for the first or fifth time you are not alone in the pain of this world, to see instead, the beauty in a rainy day or a lazy cat. ~ Amy L Helein |
